A song or something like it

Note: I was asked to write a song for a college band. And boy, was I thrilled. The following is my attempt at it. The response I got for it was "This song would be perfect for U2." Trust me, that was meant to be an insult. I like U2, so I didn't feel too bad about it! But don't tell me I didn't warn you. After all, it's a reject. But that didn't damage my ego one bit, which is why I'm shamelessly posting it on my blog for all the world to see.

This thing called Lust

Whoa, the heat’s there
We’re lying bare
Of clothes, or of emotions?
She’s fallen asleep
In thoughts, I’m deep
Contemplating possible premonitions

Without a doubt
Water will put right out

A fire that's ablaze
A desire for danger?
Human instincts of animal nature?

The mind's stuck, in a daze

It’s like in quicksand
You find you’re stuck and
The only way is down
So much for sanity
When you see that she
Is taking off that nightgown

Sex for pleasure
Much beyond measure
Crushing rationale to dust

Such physical passion
A crazy obsession
This thing called Lust

Burning, burning
Burning, burning
Oh, she feels us burning
Burning, burning
Burning, burning
I feel us burning out

Let’s burn!

P.S. - I know it's probably more exciting to think that I have lesbian tendencies, which I might; however, this song was being written for a men-band. (Boy-band sounds so Boyzonish or Backstreetboyish. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but imagine calling Metallica or Pink Floyd a boy-band. Haha! Man, that would get me killed!!! Though the contorted faces of some of my friends would be worth it :D )

Men-band??? Yikes. Please don't include Pink Floyd or Metallica in the same paragraph as "men-band".

Anyway...clearly lust is a popular topic with you. And here I thought only nerds in places with an imbalanced gender ratio got this horny.

But what else do you call a band that has all men in it?

As for your second statement... it's hard to find a good man these days :p

Chandna...
What did you eat before you were born man? How the hell did you get so enthu?! (I am complimenting you... these days its better to specify!) I've never seen a person more willing to increase work for himself!

And that was a hot little no. Ms. V! (Note the sexual lusty undertone here)

Apologies to those who were offended by the redundant use of sexual and lusty...

Anon: Yeah, it makes a good rap song.

RA: Muslim hunks are only good to look at. I want more than that ;) Doesn't my poem tell you anything? :P

Gautam: Hehehe. I agree with Vibes. Seriously, you have way too much enthu! Why don't YOU sing and put it to music? Or if you can come up with a tune for it, I can sing it.

Manoj: Sex need not equal to porn :p But let me know if anyone wants to buy it. The song, I mean. I hear they pay good money ;)

Vibes: Sexual lusty undertone noted. What next? ;)

Vit X: Woof woof!

Jaguu: Maybe they didn't get it. Or they don't get "it". ;)

Manoj: So you mean to say the entire world was discussing porn when talking about the Clinton-Lewinsky case??? :P

Abhi: Well since your blog is so child friendly, I thought it's only fair that the adults get some entertainment too ;) Thanks for the compliment though.

Gautam: But I need a tune first!!! I don't have a tune.

Vishy: Haha! So true. The Tamil industry would just lap it up. After all, everyone still loves 'vaseegara' :D

Vas: Me or the poem? ;)

Reverend: Rage against the Machines?? Sounds like a band I would listen to when I've had a lousy break-up with a lousier boyfriend. *shudder*

Quite impressive.

>Sex for pleasure
>Much beyond measure
>Crushing rationale to dust
>Such physical passion
>A crazy obsession
>This thing called Lust

This sounded AWESOME. Could actually hear someone singing it.

>Whoa, the heat’s there
>We’re lying bare
>Of clothes, or of emotions?
>She’s fallen asleep
>In thoughts, I’m deep
>Contemplating possible premonitions

And I thought this had a lot of depth behind it. Not bad, not bad at all.

Keep it up.

ps - I love U2 too. Who doesn't?

Hiren: Well if you write poems, then you'd know that this song is actually written in a style. It follows the aabccb style.

Sandy: It's partly my sense of humour, and partly the fact that it's easier the next time I want to add another link. So dumbo you! And yeah, read it again. Though I don't think it's in your capacity to understand it :p So spare yourself the trouble.

Sahil: As of now, you are my most favourite person in the world!!! I actually HAVE put a lot of thought into this song. I just didn't put down some rhyming words. My favourite part is
It’s like in quicksand
You find you’re stuck and
The only way is down

I don't know why, but I like it! And the line that I actually think is the deepest is Human instincts of animal nature? Did you get what I mean by that?

At October 29, 2005 5:10 am, Blogger LovingAndLosing said...

Sahil: And yes. U2 rocks! EL-EV-A-TION!!!!!!!!!!! :D

'Human instincts of animal nature'

I say to each his own interpretation of the lyrics. That's the beauty of songs by U2.

But to me, that line describes how we sometimes leave our humanity behind, and succumb to our 'animal nature' - that is survival of the fittest, and think only of ourselves, and no one else.
